Tarsos is an ancient city of Cilicia, situated in modern-day south-central Turkey. Originally the capital of its native rulers, from 400 BC until the arrival of Alexander the Great in 333 BC, it was ruled by the Persian Empire. It was later ruled by the Seleucid, Roman and Byzantine Empires, in that order.
