Roman Provincial Coinage III, From Nerva to Hadrian (AD 96–138). (London & Paris, 2015). This coin belongs to the first of two groups of large SC bronzes from the mint of Antioch. Characteristic of this first group is that the coins never have bevelled flans and hadrian's portrait usually has a long neck: see Butcher, p. 358.

Hadrian was Roman Emperor from 117 to 138 AD. One of the "Five Good Emperors", Hadrian continued to lead the Roman Empire into an era of prosperity, such that he was declared Optimus Princeps ('the best ruler') by the Senate.
