General: Philip III Arrhidaeus was born in 359 BC, son of King Phillip II, King of Macedon. He reigned as king of Macedonia following the death of his younger half-brother, Alexander II the Great. Born with the name Arrhidaeus, he took the name Philip in honour of his father Philip II, on ascending to the throne. The coins minted during his reign continued to be in the same style as the coins of Alexander the Great, with 'ΦILIPPOY' (of Phillip) replacing Alexandrou ('of Alexander') on the reverse.
