General: Constantine I "the Great" was Roman Emperor from 306 to 337 AD. He became sole Emperor of the Western and Eastern Roman Empires following the defeat of emperors Maxentius and Licinius. He renamed the city of Byzantium as Constantinople which become the capital of the Roman Empire, and later the Byzantine Empire, for the next thousand years. The first Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity he had a great influence on the transition to Christianity as the dominant religion in the Roman Empire. This coin was issued posthumously under the rule of Constantius II and Constans in honour of Constantine I.
