General: Trajan was one of the greatest Roman Emperors. A former soldier, he expanded the Roman Empire to its largest size in history. A philanthropist who invested in social welfare and public building programs, he is known as the second of the Five Good Emperors. Trajan's column is a Roman triumphal column. Still standing today in the Roman Forum, it was originally built to commemorate Trajan's victory in the Dacian wars. One of the few structures depicted on an ancient Roman coin to still exist today.
