General: Vespasian was Roman emperor from AD 69 to AD 79. The beginning of his reign marked the end of the tumultuous period of leadership, which included the Year of Four Emperors, returning stability to the Roman Empire. Vespasian reformed the financial system and started large construction activities, most notably the Roman Colosseum, which was completed during the reign of his son Titus. Volume II of Coins of the Roman Empire in the British Museum attributes this Sestertius as being minted during Vespasian's third consulship ("COS III"), during which the following events occurred: his son Titus returned to Rome; Triumph of Vespasian and Titus; Lucilius Bassus takes Herodium and Machaerus; Temple of Janus closed; Temple of Peace begun.
